How to Begin the Healing Process

The individual healing process is as unique as each person on earth. Credited to Oprah Winfrey.Contrary to popular belief there are not 20 steps to enlightenment nor 12 steps to health nor, 8 steps to optimum health, 7 steps to success, those so called steps are simply intellectual suggestions of ways to transform one’s thinking.

On the other hand, personal healing can spontaneously occur in a nonlinear second and then all the changes needed in the mind and body could take the same individual 20 years to complete. The 20 years is the process of healing, the transformation of all parts of a person. The healing process is just that, a process which takes time and understanding. Change can occur in a second, transformation takes time.  What is wholeness and healing is not the same for everyone.  Therefore, rather than focusing on an abstract idea of healing, addressing the concrete, mundane challenges of life IS ALWAYS the first priority. You Must begin by focusing on daily life hindrances.

Wholeness and Connectiveness is the natural state of humans. Yet many bio-psychosocial factors upset the balance.  Growing up requires an individual to “fit in”, handle defeat, rejection and the pain of unmet needs.  Wholeness is broken not universally but in very specific ways, unique to each history and genetic makeup.  Healing is an inner change with outer manifestations.

In the best circumstances, they promote the healing process in the bodies of each patient.  The basis of Western medicine presupposes treating the symptoms and reinforcing the body and mind enough to cure itself.  Do understand that no doctor, produce or idea is going to cure unique human brokenness!

The journey to wholeness is one of choice and control over the paths one uses to clean toxins, enhance awareness and care for the self.  Below I’ve listed specific suggestions, paths if you will, which at first may seem trite and rather silly, only because their respective semantic representation degraded over time.

  • Explore the world – Last Child in the Wilderness
  • Breathe
  • Eat well
  • Drink water
  • Evaluate habits and begin to eliminate unhealthy ones (one at a time)
  • Sleep
  • Exercise
  • Safe touch
  • Acceptance of self
  • Loving relationships
  • Prayer and meditation
  • Exploring of healing modalities. For example, if pain is a problem look for pain reduction techniques; if stress is the difficulty then reduce your stresses if possible and also look for stress lessening techniques.Assorted colored glasses.

In very clear terms:

Take stock of health and functioning in day-to-day living and learn how to deal with difficulties one at a time.  For example, suffering from insomnia will impair all of your other life functions. That’s why IT MUST be dealt with first.  The same is true with chronic pain as well as obesity. And if you are angry all the time resolve that problem first.    If someone is shooting up each day and experiencing money and housing problems, it is a quite different issue from a CEO who works 24-7 and never gets to see his friends or family, but there are many health and especially physiology issues in common.

Other pertinent situations

If the illness is from physical or emotional violence deal with that situation first. But a caution, addressing one difficulty will not make a person whole! I must say this again. Solving one problem is never the answer to wholeness because an unhealthy state does not occur from a single dynamic.  There is never one thing that made a human sick or caused him/her to have less than optimum health.  All of these examples are just a way into the journey. To begin the healing process, you must tackle one issue at a time.
